The Hattiesburg Concert Association is delighted to host the HCA Pine Belt Choral Festival that will feature The Meistersingers as well as ensembles from William Carey University, University of Southern Mississippi, and Southwest Mississippi Community College.  The culmination of the festival will be an evening finale concert where each choral ensemble will be featured individually before joining forces for a wonderful combined presentation that will offer the audience an exclusive preview of music by Mormon Tabernacle Choir conductor, Mack Wilberg, who will be conducting The Meistersingers in February.

The Meistersinger Chorus and Orchestra, Maryann Kyle, the Southern Mississippi Ballet Theatre, Vasti Jackson, Roots Gospel Voice of Mississippi, On Your Toes Dance Studio, the USM Dixie Darlings and more at this magical holiday event that is a family tradition! Winter Wonderland’s Christmas Village and Concert will inspire the imagination and usher in the holiday spirit with amazing decorations, activities for children, and great holiday entertainment.  This event is co-presented by Forrest General Hospital.

The Sacred Music of Mack Wilberg

Our guest conductor for this concert is Mack Wilberg, composer, arranger, conductor ad music director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.  His compostions and arrangements are performed and recorded by choral organizations throughout the world and including such artists as Reneé Fleming, Frederica von Stade, Bryn Terfel, the King’s Singers, Audra McDonald, David Archuleta, and even narrator Walter Cronkite.  The culmination of a multi-day festival, this program features his Requiem and other sacred works performed with the orchestra and a mass choir from across the South.

Johann Sebastian Bach’s compositions are considered to be among the finest from the Baroque period.  His Mass in B Minor, finalized just before his death, is one of his last and most glorious works.  Join conductor Gregory Fuller, the Southern Miss choirs, and the Meistersinger Civic Chorus as they perform this magnificent choral masterwork.
